Dyspareunia
Persistent or recurrent pain during sexual activity which can affect intimacy, relationships and overall wellbeing.
What is Dyspareunia?
Dyspareunia refers to pain during arousal, penetration, orgasm or after sex. It can occur at the vaginal entrance (superficial), or deeper in the pelvis. This pain can stem from physical factors like pelvic floor muscle tightness, scar tissue, hormonal changes, infections, vaginal dryness, Endometriosis, or trauma. It may also involve psychological elements such as anxiety, fear of pain, history of abuse, or relationship stress.
"Approximately 20-50% of women and 1-5% of men experience dyspareunia during their lives. Many don't seek help due to stigma or embarrassment." - Australian Physiotherapy Association
